# Problem with making buttons

so i am doing my portfolio, trying to make button. when i try and add actions to said button i get an error " current selections cannot have actions applied to it."

even if i make a new file and go\>make rectangle\>convert to symbol\>button\>double click it to get it into (symbol 1)\> F9(actions panel)\> error

thanks in advance for any help!
