# Refer to MC Instance

Help I’m going nuts!

Just transferred over to AS 3 recently (Well I thought I had!)

Trying to refer to MC’s on stage via their instance names which I have in an array as such:

[COLOR=SeaGreen]var freeLetterArray:Array = new Array(“MC1”, “[/COLOR][COLOR=SeaGreen]MC2[/COLOR][COLOR=SeaGreen]”, “[/COLOR][COLOR=SeaGreen]MC3[/COLOR][COLOR=SeaGreen]”, “[/COLOR][COLOR=SeaGreen]MC4[/COLOR][COLOR=SeaGreen]”, “[/COLOR][COLOR=SeaGreen]MC5[/COLOR][COLOR=SeaGreen]”);[/COLOR][COLOR=SeaGreen]

var freeLetterCount:uint = freeLetterArray.length;

```
for(var i:uint = 0; i &lt; freeLetterCount; i++) {
    
    var letterMovieClip:MovieClip = MovieClip(freeLetterArray*);

    trace("Letter MovieClip: " + letterMovieClip);

}

```

[COLOR=Black]  
But it’s all failing with the lovely jubbly [/COLOR][COLOR=Red]coercion failed message…[/COLOR]  
[COLOR=Black]  
Can any of you lovely peeps out there help me…?
