TechCrunch reports that major robotaxi companies, including Tesla and Waymo, wouldn’t tell Senator Ed Markey how often their self-driving vehicles need remote human help, which leaves.

If they will not publish interventions per 1,000 miles and the categories behind them, the safety claim is mostly branding, and the caveat is that a raw rate alone can mislead unless it is split by whether the human merely advised or actually took control.

A better baseline is interventions per 1,000 miles by trigger and outcome, because “remote help” can mean anything from route advice to a dead stop in traffic.
