# Scrollbar component problem

Hi,
I am trying to follow this tutorial here [http://www.macromedia.com/support/flash/ts/documents/scrolling\_text\_mx.htm](http://www.macromedia.com/support/flash/ts/documents/scrolling_text_mx.htm)
for scrolling text box.
In the tutorial it says that when you drag the UIScrollBar component onto the text field that the scrollbar will automatically resize to fit the height or length of the text area.
Mine does not do this. I need to manually move and resize the scrollbar itself.
I am using Flash MX Pro 2004.
Anyone have any suggestions?

it should. Are you using the scrollbar component from the 7.2 upgrade?

I’m using Flash MX Professional 2004 7.2
In the component window, the item is now called UIScrollBar under the UI Components list.
Any ideas?
I’ve tried dragging the scrollbar component directly into the middle of the text area, dragging to the top, bottom and sides of the text area and so on…but it’s always nothing. I have to move the scrollbar manually and then resize it as well.
It’s not a big deal, but it’d knock a few steps off of the process to use it like everyone else and have it work automatically LOL.

are you dragging it on a text area or a text field? The scrollbar component is for text fields, the text area component has its own scrollbar

Hi,
Thanks for your help.
I am following the tutorial and clicking on the text tool then dragging a square with the text tool.
After that, I am attempting to place the scrollbar component onto that text area/field.

if you’re using the UIScrollBar on an input or dynaimc textfield instance (and not for example a movieclip _containing_ it) then it should work. Other than that I have no idea why it wouldnt.

I figured it out!!! lol
The ‘Snap to Object’ was turned off lol I turned it on and now it works.
Crazy programs LOL
