# Sinking Effect

I am struggling to determine how to create an effect in which I have some text that slowly “sinks” into the floor on the stage. Not only would the text disappear, but the floor would almost seem to swallow it up, with minor ripple effects left on the surface once the text disappears.

Does anyone know of any example sites or have an insights as to how I might accomplish this?

No but there are several things you can check on [kirupa.com](http://kirupa.com) to help you:  
search the tutorials for masks (that would actually hide the text when it ‘disappears’ in the stage/  
for the text going done letter by letter check this very useful tutorial (in fact you should base your project with the help of that file: [http://www.kirupa.com/developer/actionscript/ascript\_text\_animation.htm](http://www.kirupa.com/developer/actionscript/ascript_text_animation.htm))

If you look on this very exciting and ground-breaking site - [http://www.whoswestudios.com/flashsite.html](http://www.whoswestudios.com/flashsite.html)

And press the botton on the navigation control titled “Where we are” you’ll see the metallic ball sink into the floor. It looks like an advanced effect which will probably be over my head, but nevertheless, I’d love to know how to do this.
