# Sure it exists - but how and where? XML

I am really in need of a tutorial or similar (read: fla with commented code) to explain the creation of a dynamic flash site/folio/page using XML. I can get individual nodeVaules displayed and changing them with hard coded variables, however when I attempt to create buttons which would display data from the next node it all falls apart for me. So essentially changing sections (if the xml document had say 2 sections PRINT and WEB) and then duplicating the correct number of buttons for the projects (within the sections) which would then load the data for each project.
I have files but the really aren’t worth DLing since they would create more confusion then anything else.
I can’t for the life of me work this out, most other things make SOME sense (or at least I can fool myself and others that it makes sense), but this is really getting me (and coding is not my favourite or my forte).

I should also have kirupa’s updated soon. Should have it done by this weekend 😉 Its beefy. A print preview puts it in at over 70 pages :hangover: I can only imagine the number of typos in the thing

I am still having HEAPS o’trouble with this. Maybe I’m just really impatient, or just really bad at AS or summit. I know what I need it to do and what is “should” be doing but it isn’t or I ain’t making it!!
file is attached, but I would prefer to follow through with understanding hows and whys cheers for the reply.
or maybe it’s the structure of the folio I need help with?!?! Me no know

perhaps someone could point out how to make an entire site filled with xml data (i.e. structure etc.)

hmmm thats odd. Ive never had problems going back and forth with flas before. :huh:
anyway, if you want the rough of the tutorial, let me know and Ill upload it 😉
Exactly how much of the “entire site” do you expect to come from XML? Are you just talking about text content? or maybe the actual structure of the entire site?

it’d be awesome if I could get the rough tutorial.
Response to question = basically just text content and images, so it essentailly works as a “database” so I can add projects, images and details to the XML file/s and these changes are reflected in the Flash file.

Its not that hard. I have an example in the tut that does a one screen example of what you’re doing; dynamic buttons, loading images and text when clicked, etc. I kept that fla in the [_rough download_](http://senocular.com/pub/tutorials/xml_rough.zip) but I deleted the others to keep is small (Im on dial up so it would have taken longer to upload should I have included them all - if you want any particular one that isnt there, I can get that one to you too). The jabber is all there about working with XML too. Again this is rough and not finished/in need of revisions etc 😉
