that’s a great thought. If you think about it - in the next few years (maybe a bit more) typing may become a thing of the past. It will all be voice regognition for most things… I think the mouse or something like it will be a staple for ever but typing will soon be no more. Thanks for getting me thinking Phil - I never looked at it that way before. ---

isn’t there already plenty of voice recognition software out there? or am I misunderstanding what you’re saying… Cause I know for sure there’s touchscreen monitors out there. 😃 and with a few tricks you could manage not having to do anything but touch to upload, I’m sure. EDIT: Accidentally put IS instead of ISN’T. ---

I don’t know that typing will become obsolte, at least for a long long time. It will be hard typing essays and stuff for class when you have to write about like Chaucer or phytoplanktin. It would be very hard to make it so the computer could understand all words. Plus gaming would be seriously hurt. And well, forget about [Kirupa.com](http://Kirupa.com), not like anybody could pronounce it to get here :). ---

You can click somewhere and have voice recognition software work with programs you are using Aislin or combine the both and you can touch the screen where you want the cursor and talk. I’ve read that with voive recognition software that they now teach themselves the way that a particular user sounds so most of the words are translated into text correctly. Maybe in ten years or so our brainwaves will be picked up by a device so we can think what we want typed. Far out. ---

The mouse is here to stay until VR comes around. You know, when it goes beyond those crap\*y myst-like games and that snowboarding one. Until then, I’m gonna have to remember to buy the Claw. That ultra mouse with like two buttons per finger or something, I gotta have it for UT and stuff! Mind hacking, eh? Wouldn’t that be fun for those 80211b hackers. ---

Has anyone seen that CG show on YTV, or another kids-type network (for stateside members), what Phil just threw in the air there remindedd me a lot of that. they had small data pads the size of a GameBoyAdvanced, and they could do what phil just said, and they could communicate like netcams, sort of, but the window in the air was also the camera, if you get what I mean. (they weren’t looking at the tablet, but at the window.) ---

Phil: not really… the other nite I was sitting at my fav pub (Moe’s) listening to the live music they have there every nite… When I looked over at this loser, all alone over by the fireplace (where the girls hang out when they are cold), playing a game on his cell phone. He was at it for hours… The place was full of babes, the pool table was hopping, the band was rockin’… what a loser… Just think of the losers who would rather talk in chat rooms, than actually speak to another human, in real time… then multiply that times the amount of people you think will have this technology… I get an ugly visual… maybe it’s just me, but I feel if I put a huge TV screen in the middle of Union Square, there would be a group of people who would never leave, always staring at the screen… Rev ![](http://www.aulman.com/rev.gif) ---

Oh, it’s okay! It didn’t sound harsh to me! 😛 Good to hear your side of the story, though, heh. I agree that too much technology integrated into everyday life will probably end up very unhealthy, and uh, whatever else. But sometimes it’s for the better. I mean… cell-phones were a great addition to everyday life, you can’t deny that, but since the companies ran out of things to do (the phones couldn’t get any smaller, I guess) they had to keep their companies alive with fresh ideas like… games. They have to do something, don’t they? edit: I don’t have a game cell phone and don’t plan to get one, I’m just sticking with my little … non-internet phone with one ring and 15 buttons. 😃 😛 ---

I gave my cell phone up about a year ago (I’d had one since 1994), and I haven’t missed it a bit… I actually like the fact that my friends can’t call me everytime some little glitch in their computer happens. _laughs_ Fair enough. I use mine simply for rides home (Yeah, I’m 15… so I can’t drive) and to use when I need it. I don’t use it much for socializing, and I’m not really the point-man for computer problems. My friends don’t think to call me, and from the way you talk about it, I think I’m glad. ---

LOL, they still find a way to call tho… I have 2 friends at the moment who are having major problems with the Dell I recommended for them… I recommended Dell because of their service… then they both lost thier HD… At least I am not half drunk, and trying to chat up the bartender when they call (I actually heard a friend’s g/f once say “don’t call him, he’s always drunk by this time”).
