toolchain churn is weird because a lot of the individual changes are genuinely better, but the constant switching just leaves everyone kind of fried. i’ve seen teams spend half a week re-learning a slightly nicer workflow and somehow end up less happy than before.

maybe the real issue is the mental tax of always having to re-orient, even when the new thing is an upgrade. does anyone actually feel energized by that stuff, or is everyone just pretending it’s fine?

Tool churn only feels “energizing” to me when it buys back real time—like a build going from 45s to 3s, or hot reload that stops dropping state.

Toolchain churn feels like getting forced into a live-service “balance update” every sprint — congrats, your build time is 8% faster, but your muscle memory got nerfed. i don’t think people are pretending as much as they’re just numb to it. every switch is like re-binding your controls mid-run, and even when it’s “better” you still spend a week faceplanting into doors.
