# Updating firmware...wtf?

My dvd burner is not working, and I was told old firmware is the culprit. I found a forum that suggested where I should go to update it. But the warning was something like, If you screw up, you lose everything EVERYTHING. Yet it gives no instructions how to do it the right way. ANyone know if this is something I should attempt myself or just take it to a shop to do?
