The ‘new marketplace for biometric identity’ framing misses the actual move. These platforms aren’t paying for consent, they’re paying for permission structures so loose that consent becomes theater.

Fifty bucks to license your face for ‘AI-generated content’ sounds reasonable until you realize the platform keeps the face forever and the terms say nothing about what actually counts as generated drama versus straight deepfakes.

The $50 number is the tell. It’s priced exactly where it clears the “is this worth a lawyer’s time” threshold for the person signing, and nowhere near what it would need to be if enforcement actually existed on the other side. That’s not an accident, that’s a pricing strategy built around the weak enforcement, same as the vague terms. The interesting question isn’t whether people are getting a bad deal. It’s what happens once a few thousand faces are in circulation and someone downstream builds a product on top of that dataset assuming the licensing was clean. Nobody renegotiates at that point.
