# Vectorize video

I was wondering if, since flash mx has the ability to show videos, it’s possible to make a movie vectorized as in Flix, but do it straight in Flash? Is there any other applications than Flix that can make this kind of stuff? Is it possible in Adobe Premiere? Would be cool if so… 🙂

There are a couple ways of doing it, but I dont think Premiere can do it, unless there is a plug-in.
All Flix does is trace each frame and convert it to a vector image. Although that is probably the fastest way to do it, you can also ‘trace’ each exported frame using the trace bitmap tool in Flash or the trace tool in illustrator.
Or if you can get your hands on a copy of Adobe Streamline, that can do a vector trace as well.

you can also use Premier to break up the video into jpegs, then use Fireworks or Image Ready to batch process to gif with 4 colors…
it isn’t actually vector, but it looks like it. I used that process here: [http://www.ayoungkim.com](http://www.ayoungkim.com) for the animations …
BTW - it takes a while to do it this way, but the file size will be smaller than trace bitmap inside Flash.

Gahh. Export every frame… Ok. Well I’ve actually got an old CD here. Hmm Adobe Streamline 4.0… But I still have to export every frame, right? Well one should maybe go get a copy of Flix instead…
Is there a good way to export every frame as a bitmap or jpg from any app? Kind of hard to export 200 frames manually…

You can import the video into flash, and then make the stage the size of the video and export it as a jpeg sequence. You can then bring the sequence into flash again and trace thoes bitmaps. When you import flash will ask you if you want to bring in the rest of the sequence and it will automatically bring in the rest of the images and put them in order on frames. You can the trace the bitmaps, possibly by editing multipul frames, but I havent gotten that to work. Hopefully this makes sense.

You dont necessarily have to export every frame, you can drop some frames. I use Adobe Premiere and then I go to File\>Export\>Frame. Using the Quicktime player, you can do copy frames and paste them into ImageReady or Flash like the file attached.

Premier batch processes the movie to jpegs…
then Fireworks batch process the images, then import to Flash…
done (and of course you don’t need all of the 30 or so fps, you can drop a bunch of them)…
and yes, it does take a while, that is why you don’t see much like it around…
