# What do I need?

my cousin is getting rid of his old windows pc and I was toying with the idea of buying it. I’ve mentioned this somewhere before on here but I need more help because when it comes to servers I’m a complete noob.

he has a windows ME pc and I want to use it as a Linux Server so I can learn PHP and maybe Java. At the moment I have a windows ME PC and a windows xp laptop that I would like to be able to connect to my server anytime needed.

What do I need to buy to make this all happen?  
A router?  
Linux?  
Miles and miles of cable?

I don’t wanna host sites on it, all I intend to use it for is to learn PHP and Java. Mind you connecting the PC and Laptop isn’t essential…just something that would be nice.
