I’m a Industrial Engineer, living in São Paulo, Brazil. I’ve been working in the e-learning industry for the past 4 years, currently working for [Ciatech](http://www.ciatech.com.br), one of the major e-learning companies over here. I support a team of Flash developers and I’m also the e-learning developer, responsible for delivering SCORM/AICC content into the many LMS’s on the market. ---

True, mostly because the software crashes or is written in such a stupid way that you have to refrain from smashing you computer with a hammer about 15 times a day. I love to listen to my coworker invent new swear words for the projects he is working on! ---

It’s certainly in demand though, my classmates were getting jobs after like one or two classes. ---

And thats a little frightening, honestly, unless they are just doing simple stuff like digitizing or working with annotation. It’s VERY easy to really screw up data if you don’t know what you are doing. I love my job, though. :thumb: ---

Yeah, I certainly wouldn’t have felt comfortable doing it in a professional capacity. It just seemed so amazingly precise and fickle that you need to really be on the ball. ---

I’m sure Lunatic has a better definition, but it’s this crazy cryptic mapping / data organization… system… thing. Think Illustrator, except you have to be highly trained to figure it out, and it involves geographic spacial data. It’s used in things like city planning. ---

:lol: It stands for Geographic Information Systems and at its simplest it is mapping software although you can also do some amazing analysis with it. It can be used for ANYTHING that has a geographic component. Example 1: real estate Simple query: show me the location of all 3 bedroom one-story houses for sale that are less than $450K, are within 2 miles of a public school, and within 5 miles of a hospital. Example 2: potential habit mapping More complex query: given that species n likes forested areas of a certain size, need to be within x distance of water, prefer y species of plant to eat, and are only found at such and such elevation, where would you expect to find them in this location? etc. Its pretty cool. Our consulting firm staffs wetland scientists, archaeologists, fisheries biologists, ecologists, etc and we assist all of them.
