Solo technical founders are discussing the familiar build-post-stall loop and comparing lower-risk ways to get marketing help, especially whether a marketing cofounder makes sense and what evidence would justify that bet.

Back to coding a new thing.\<p\>I know I need marketing help but giving equity to someone I met online feels like a huge risk. At the same time hiring a paid marketer when you have zero revenue feels just as scary....

I wouldn’t jump to a marketing cofounder yet. If you still don’t know exactly who the buyer is or which channel might work, giving up equity is a pretty expensive bet.

I’d spend maybe $1k–$3k on a freelancer for one very specific test over 2–3 weeks: book 10–15 customer calls, rewrite the landing page with two different angles, or run a small ad experiment. Then see if anything real shows up, like qualified leads at a sane cost or the same pain point coming up over and over in calls.

If you get signal, keep buying help in small chunks. If you don’t, it’s probably still a customer/positioning problem more than “I need a marketing cofounder.”
