Where do sites like Twitter make their money?

I can’t seem to find any ads on the site (in addition to a lot of people check their Twitter with “helper apps” rather than the web interface), and I haven’t really noticed any hidden product placement slipped into any of my tweets.

But they must be making money somehow, as those servers can’t be cheap.
