How do you make links open in new windows whilst using the XML Strict doctype ?

I know to use target="\_blank" on all of the doctypes but that isn’t a valid attribute for strict. see: [http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag\_a.asp](http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_a.asp)

So what can i do?
