3d in new Web site project

Hello All

I’m starting a new website for a company that deals with digital microscopes. I want to use some of the 3d cad files they’ve made using SolidWorks and get something going with 3d for the website. I have 3d Studio Max 5.

My problem is out of the list of file types i gave my client, he said he can export to STL. I’m just worried about the limit of polygons i can use for a 3d model on the website. Whats a good limit for polygon count on a 3d web inferface?

Also, should i use Shockwave, or something like swift 3d or vecta 3d? Assuming money is not the issue.

I’m just trying to get an idea of how i can start this project.
Thanks.

Omer

more people have the flash player than the shockwave player… besides shockwave is till s little slow on the net unless you have broadband (like me hehehe)…

rather go for swift 3d… the results are quite amazing. you can also get a swift 3d plug-in for max, so you can render your max animations/objects directly to flash/swift 3d…

can the client export the cad files as dxf? sometimes the results are a little better…

alternatively, make new models in max (nyak nyak nyak… i’m sure that’s what you are trying to avoid)
