3DS MAX 6 Problem with Rendering/Texturing(?)

Ok, i got a big problem with one of my scenes, so bare with me, cause i need your help.

Here’s the scene: Japanese Samurai, reflections on the armour, multi/sub material on the head for different maps, intense environment.

So, i render out a scene in which the dude’s head does not appear. The scene renders out like a turtle walking on glue, but it renders. No problem.

Next scene has to have the guy’s head in, as it has to have facial animation etc. The rendering goes faster than the previous scene, BUT (here’s the nice bit) after it renders one frame, it crashes. I have tried rendering the scene without the guy’s head: it renders fine. I tried rendering ONLY the samurai’s head: it crashes.

I even tried changing the output format, i thought there was something to do with rendering as AVI. I tried MOV and TGA: same deal.

I do not understand why this is happening. I rendered the samurai model lots of times when modelling and texturing it, and it went fine. But in this occasion, it crashes. I have tried it with another samurai model that is in the scene (one that comes later in the story) and still, one frame and death for my MAX.

I am not inexperienced with MAX, i have been working with it for 5 years, and i have seen some problems in my time. But this…

Please, wise readers, this project is for my Masters Degree. Any help is appreciated.

Thanx in advance.

Ok, You will be happy to know that i have fixed the problem. At least the main one… The scene is rendering and can be saved as a sequence. BUT! For some reason, which i only just noticed, my cameras are sorta… streched out. I don’t know which setting i, or the program, accidentaly changed, but the field of view is squashed top-bottom, and as a result it streches the image top-bottom. Even when i make new cameras, they are messed up as well. Any ideas? I fix one thing and something else breaks down…
