Heres the scoop - I will pay $50 dollars for the correct actionscripting for the following case.
I have the main.swf on level 0 which contains a closed caption button which has to be on by default or white in color. When clicked this button will turn grey and stay grey. Toggling between these two situations each time it is clicked.
Also I have 10 other buttons on the main.swf timeline that use the loadMovie to bring in other .swf’s into level 1.
Each of these .swf’s contain a movie clipped (instance name cc) which contains the text animation for the closed captioning.
My problem that needs figuring out is this :
The closed captioning needs to be on by default with the Closed Caption button on the main.swf white as each .swf is loaded into level 1 - the closed captioning needs to recgonize whether it needs to be on or off conditioned on the state of the Closed Caption button in the main .swf.
So basically the scripting for the Closed Caption button and the scripting for each additional .swf to recgonize the state of the closed captioning button.

Why do you offer money for that, it’s not so complicated a problem? (sorry folks, if anyone needs the bucks and wants to code this, let me know…)
To get you started, use a clip as your “caption button” and a test on a variable acting as a switch: click > switch = 1; click2 > switch =0; click3 > switch =1 and so on, and send your button movies timeline to the on or off label depending on the switch variables value.
In the loaded clips, set onLoad (this._visible = false) or move them off stage with their _x property or whatever, just to be sure they don’t show before you send them to the label as requiered by the same switch variable (but here you need to test for level0.switch )
I hope this gets you or someone needing 50 bucks on the way…there’s other possibilities for coding this…
Maybe it is more complicated, in that case you’ll want to explain better…

well, actually that’s not quite enough code because you’ll want a movie to recognise the cc state when it loads. we’ll need a variable, and some code in each cc movie. let’s initialise a global variable at the start of the movie called showCaptions, maybe in _root.frame1:
umm… yeah, I’d like to say right here and now that no member of this board, new or old, should make such a claim without adhiring to it.
I realize that you guys just went ahead and gave out the info… and I guess without some sort of standard rules set down ahead of time, there’s little call for action at this point. BUT, if I had given the advice I would expect the $50 to be forth coming.
I’m going to talk to Kirupa though about the issue. I’d like something writen in a rules section or a FAQ. This is no game that we play, despite our playing and joking around, here at kirupa. More than half of us are profressionals. As a professional I take offers of payment very seriously.
I will support instant banning for life of any person who attempts to shirk a payment which is offered. I would hope that all of you would support such action also.

It is his own fault as he would have gotten the info for free if he had simply asked the question, that is what this board is for and why we all love - a community helping itself, but once you make an offer… sticking to it is a must. Let us know what develops david!

I agree, instant ban for people who are seriously considering paying for info and bolting. Besides, anybody who’s willing to pay would not so blatanly post the question on a forum. The forums are free and the help the poster gets is great thanks to you guys (and gals).
I really despise people like him who simply add a catchy title to get help.
I have extended an email to Allen, stating two things. A) that he is not currently banned… nor will he be for this situation, and B) that I’d appreciate a simple ‘sorry’ from him in this thread. I know that all of you would accept this and be forgiving of him, as I am. I would hate to think that he hasn’t returned because of embarassment over the situation. So please… if he does come back, I’d appreciate it if you all would be as kind as I am, and offer him a second chance to be part of our community, to contribute, and learn from us. Everyone deserves a second chance (and in some cases a third and fourth etc)
Olive branches and all that.
In the mean while I am kind of unofficialy working on a FAQ for posters here to look at, which will cover the concepts behind our frustrations and hopefuly avoid this sort of thing in the future.

personally - I feel, if you NEED to read a FAQ on propper etiquette there is already a problem… isnt it pretty obvious what’s rude and whats not? I dont remember buying a book on how to be nice to people when you first meet them :-\
Anyway I agree with you David on giving him a second chance - and by extending that invitation I think it really says something good about the people here that run the forums (as well as the members). Help, learning and information for all!
I never meant to cause such a commotion over all of this but let me tell my side of the story and maybe clear up some confusion on this matter -
This is my first time back to the post since about 1 am 8 -24
eyezberg’s post basically set me off in the right direction with his input on the matter and yes I did run with it but according to his post he asked why offer money for that and simple wanted to help out!
I fully admit my fault for not responding but it was very early in the morning before I got this done so yes I am sorry for not posting sooner.
One other thing - If eyezberg want’s the $50 I will more than gladly pay him to clear up this matter. But as these things sometimes go there is a stigma that follows you no matter what and sometimes the only way to clear that is to re-register under a diffrent name, which i do not want to do but may have to.
The other thing is I really appreciate and have appreciated all the help and tutorials on this board -

I’m glad I wrote you the email. Especially after hearing that. I too felt like it was going in a direction that I didn’t want to make. Feeling responsible for stating the whole money issue in the first place, it was my only option.
As far as I’m concerned, you have no need to reregister, and I’ll be more than happy to help you with anything else that I can in the future.
For the record, at least as far as I am concerned, I will tell someone when they are asking for something that will require that they hire me rather than just get free advice. Ask any question, because you never know what we’ll be able to explain, but be curtious and understanding whenever one of us says that that’s really a hirable request, and Kirupaforum will never abandon you.
I hope other people will follow my lead on the issue, but I will aslo accept it if they don’t. I’m just trying to live and let live.
