Does anyone know how this was done?

It appears that the background and mid-ground elements are skewing / curving depending on position… an optical illusion or tricky script???
Any thoughts / suggestions on how to try this would be appreciated.
I’m trying to replicate this effect on a 1024X768 stage… any info / ref’ links or… FLA’s! would be helpful!!
