AS2 equivelent of event.target.name

I learned how to use a loop to more efficiently program buttons in AS3 but now have to do a project in AS2. I’m trying to figure out how to do the same thing in AS2 but am having trouble. event.target.name doesnt appear to work in AS2. What is teh equivelent.

This is what I’m trying to do

var buttons:Array = [ben_btn, naomi_btn, wyatt_btn, eve_btn];
for (var i:Number = 0; i < buttons.length; i++)
{
buttons*.onRelease = function()
{
playMovie();
};

}
function playMovie()
{
var instanceName:String = event.target.name;
var currentChoice:String = instanceName.slice(0, instanceName.indexOf("_"));
//this[instanceName] converts the string to a mc
//switch case is just like an if else statement but with less code
switch (currentChoice)
{
case "ben" :
gotoAndPlay("ben");
break;
case "naomi" :
gotoAndPlay("naomi");
break;
case "wyatt" :
gotoAndPlay("wyatt");
break;
case "eve" :
gotoAndPlay("eve");
break;
default :
break;
}
}
