I’m not sure if this is possible with the current forum software, however, I DEFINITELY see a need of this.
It happens quite often that some “help seekers” would rather not put their entire FLA in a public attachment, as sometimes the file contains private information or has a lot of code they would rather not distribute freely over the internet.
I usually offer that they can PM me the code if they would prefer to keep it private, therefore preventing mass spread over the internet.
However, several times I have run into the problem that it is not possible to attach files in PMs. Usually, they end up hosting it on one of those sites where you wait 30 seconds before it can be downloaded or something like that, and that works, however, it is very much of a hassle.
I understand that allowing attachments in PMs could be used for all sorts of evil, like spamming or sending with harmful executables, and even clogging up the server with too many files.
I’m not sure how to solve the spamming issue, however, if attachments in PMs “expire” after 7 days or so and are then removed from the server, they wouldn’t take up too much space.
Pros? Cons? Is there a possibility this could be implemented in the forums in the near future?
