Ello
I need to set up a little LAN at home to share my broadband connection. I was going to do it with a coupla ethernet cards and a bit of cable but rather than that I decided to look into cheap wireless options.
Soooooo after a little research I found you can set up a basic low level LAN just with a couple of bluetooth dongles. Dead simple. What I couldn’t find out however is if the data transfer rate would be suitably high (bearing in mind I’m sharing an ADSL connection that tops out at around 70Kbs). Has anyone tried this or had experience of blue tooth and can give me an idea as to data transfer rates? The dongles I have my eye on say are capable of rates up to 723Kbs, but the actual rate will be much lower than this no?
Just FYI:
Original setup:
Serving pc
USB ADSL modem
ethernet card
software router (ccRouter)
Client pc
ethernet card
Connected with network cable
Proposed setup:
Serving pc:
USB ADSL modem
USB Bluetooth dongle
Win XP ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) set up as server
Client pc:
USB Bluetooth dongle
Win XP ICS set up as client
Connected by magic!
Anyone know if this is a suitable setup?
Cheers all
