Buttons within Scrolling Menu

I have designed a scrolling menu, but I cannot get any buttons to work within the menu. I am fairly new to Flash, and seeing as I taught myself everything I know, I am sure there is some simple reason this is not working. I used the tutorial on this site to create the menu, but in the menu items (ex. 1, 2, 3, and 4) I have a picture. I would like for the picture to then be a button that advances to a new frame when pressed. I can get the button animations to work, but cannot get the actions to work for the button. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
