Call a flash function from XML file?

My client says make this, and use XML so it’s dynamic and easy to update:
A text box with scroller holding news headlines, and a more link that will open an MC with the entire news article. Like:

artist X-Raided threw a party in his cell (with his cellmate) to

I say, sure boss, I can do it, I’m a flash guru! I think to myself, surely someone on Kirupa knows how to make that “more” link in the XML tell flash to run a specific function.
I already have a function that makes whatever mc I want visible and I can write some code to fill in dynamic text boxes with the proper nodeData. But what would that “href=” have to be in the XML in order to call that function inside of flash. Is there a way you can turn XML data into executable commands?
