Can other types of media be embedded in flash?

I need to create a small presentation, and I was hoping to do it in flash because I’m familiar with it.

I need to use a picture(.gif) and a small piece of pre-recorded video of a person talking, in this presentation application.

Can I put those in a flash movie? If so how?
If not, any suggestions on what to do?

File>Import to Library>Select files
Then drag the stuff from the library to your stage.
