Character Selection Screen

Hello, I am working on a fighting game and would like to have a character selection screen. I thought the best way to have this work out is to have movie clips for each character, place those clips into an array, and then have up down left and right call up a different movie clip from that array. However I am hopeless with code so could someone please help me with setting up this array. thank you in advance

Fydus, well man I tried the code and it didnt work. so I am going to post up how i have the code.
var tanks = new Array(6);
//making variable to browse through the array
var index = 0;
//give names to each tank
tanks[0] = “HeavyMetal”;
tanks[1] = “Future”;
tanks[2] = “Rhidozer”;
tanks[3] = “Tusk”;
tanks[4] = “The Bullfrog”;
tanks[5] = “Dark Rook”;

and then I placed within each movie clip this, changing the name and number of the array of course:

hey man, there is a MUCH easier way… way easier that i thought of…
i will post fla of what i did it doesnt require much action script at all…
