Client Login System

Hi all,

At the moment I have each of my clients’ websites uploaded to my web space in a test folder for them to view. This is the simplest way for them to view their site that I am working on; to go to my-site.com/test/their-site and have a play around with it.

I have come to a point where this is getting a little insecure. For instance I have done a few websites for businesses that are in competition with each other and one business, seeing the format in which I have uploaded their website to my web space (my-site.com/test/their-site), decided to see if they could type in the name of their competition in the place of their own to view their competition’s website… and they were successful. Yeah, awkward. :expressionless:

I would like to create a log in system so clients can only access their website through a user name and password I give them. I am a beginner with PHP, but believe I am capable of doing this, to an extent.

The problem I have is that I can only think of ways to make this work if the client’s website consists of PHP pages, where as the majority of them are HTML pages.

Can anyone suggest some sort of simple system or model I can work off to allow this client log in feature? The majority of my PHP experience has come from creating contact forms, so I just don’t know what’s possible in this case.

Any suggestions are really appreciated.

Thanks.

EDIT: I don’t think it would even be necessary at the moment to use mySQL. I was thinking I could manually enter the username and password variables for each client within the log in form page, which would hopefully simplify the whole process…
