Hey, everybody. I just want some input on this.
I’m wondering if anyone here has ever contested a parking ticket before. I got a couple of tickets today for parking in a one hour parking zone while I was at school, totaling 57 dollars. Yeah, I know it’s not that much, but I feel like I have a pretty good case since I honestly had no idea it was a one hour zone. There was a parking sign on the other side of the road, but I didn’t even see it until after I got the tickets since I wasn’t looking over there when I parked, assuming that there would be one on each side of the road where it applied. There was also what appeared to be a parking sign further down the road on the side I was on, but it was facing away from me. I couldn’t see it and couldn’t have seen it at any point and I had no reason to be coming from that direction since it was a dead end. There are usually signs all along the road marking where the parking zone begins and ends, so naturally that’s what I’m used to seeing and I didn’t see that here.
So I figure the city should be obligated to put parking signs where people can see them or else we shouldn’t be held responsible. Otherwise, they could just not put up signs at all and charge people for parking too long when nobody knew they weren’t supposed to. What do you guys think?
The tickets have three check boxes on them. The first says I agree to pay the fine. The second says I agree I committed the infraction but want to explain the circumstances at a hearing. The third says I didn’t commit the infraction and want a hearing. I wanna go for the second option, but first I wanna find out if it’s worth it. Does anybody know anything about or have experience with this sort of thing? I really have no idea who to ask or where to even start, so if anybody can point me in the right direction that would be very helpful.
