Creating cartoon-like characters

I’m not sure this is the right forum, but anyway, here’s my question:

I can’t stop wondering how the guys at www.tokyoplastic.com created what they created. Let’s take a look at that little head-banging Japanese fellow at the bottom of their site. What program did they use to make this? I mean, what could it be? Just Flash? Has anyone any idea? Also, their menu system is kind of complex and looks like a frame per frame animation, but how did they start?

Thougts are welcome! Thanks in advance.

Well when I first came to the site (the older version) I said ha this has gottabe swift. However I don’t know about recent versions of swift, but it looks a tad too complicated 3d wise for swift, so I’d go for any 3d package that has a flash exporter (3ds, maya, even c4d has a flash exporter)…

has for the sound, i’ve got to say they integrated it perfectly. Tokyoplastic is in my eyes one of the best site on the net…

True. TokyoPlastic is a piece of art, not just a website.

I heard about Cinema 4D before, but don’t know it. Is it easier to use than, let’s say, Maya?

Well I’m not going to start the whole debate here but basically it’s an app which allows you to learn very effectively without too many tutorials, much of the interface is intuitive and easy to use, not difficult menus etc…

However, it’s not a great app in terms of rendering efficiency, in terms of tools and plug-ins… I’d say it’s a great app for learning until you switch to the bigger boys (and it is much cheaper)

I was actually going to put a swf render but somehow my c4d crashes every time I render in flash, so I’m fairly disappointed. Here’s the only thing I managed to render: (rename the .zip .swf to view it, since we can’t attach swfs)

OK, thanks.
I found some other posts about C4D as well…
