Data Entry via ComboBoxes: Other Methods besides selecting from the dropDown?

I spend alot of time working in Logic Pro, a Digital Audio environment. One of the things I love about it is when you need to change values for something, such as Tempo, or Beat, or Pitch, or NoteNumber (or whatever), you can do it in two ways for every Dynamic Text Field in the program:

  1. Double Click on the field, and you can directly type in values
  2. Click-And-Drag and it will increment through the list of allowed values for that particular field.

For example, in the first picture, it shows what happens when you doubleclick on the field for the frequency of the EQ.

in this second picture, when you click hold over a parameter, you can scroll through the allowable values for that field:

Is it possible to have the same functionality with ComboBoxes? or TextFields for that matter? If my ComboBox has a really long list (like 200+ items), it would be so much easier to type in a value, and have it find the nearest match.
