Datefield componet. get selected displayed date?

Hi all,
i am using the datefield component and using dateFormatter to set the formatting to 000-00-00.

This works fine but when i trace the selected date i get “Tue Dec 6 00:00:00 GMT+0000 2005”

Anyone?
