They are automatically set back to their defaults when the program is opened.

Yep VDaminator is correct, filters will reset when photoshop is “rebooted” so to speak, off the top of my head i think you can just open a new document to reset the filters…maybe not… ill check for that…
on a side related note:: Xyz your footer (sig pic) is too large, and does not fall in the size requirements set by kirupa. Please decrease the size of the footer to a max 300px(W) and 60px(H) or you will fall doom to the Kirupa “my footer does not fit the requirements” footer"… trust me its not a pretty sight… :!:
