This is something that I have been thinking about for some time, and I got a chance to dive into this with someone who may know a lot about this topic 
The part that is tricky is that I would argue that a formal CS degree never really mattered. We know a ton of people who are at the top of their game without ever getting anything close to a CS degree. What AI has done is is moved the needle further away from the “must need” column and closer to a “nice to have” bucket
