cause our company golf outing is coming up and i’ve NEVER golfed in my entire life. i don’t know the rules OR the terms. somebody help!
uh, hit the ball into the hole. GOOD LUCK!
I would love to learn.
Due tot he ammount of time on weeknds I spend in bars, I have become excellent at this video game called Golden Tee.
(found in most bars in Northeastern US)
Ive tried to go to the driving range a few times. I suck so bad I can barely get it off the tee. SOmeone told me its because of playing too much baseball as a kid. I guess it hard to untrain yourself or something.
I would gladly go in your place pinx, but you live in the middle of nowhere.
PINX… I golf.
What can I tell you?
You can jump into IRC and I’ll give you a 101 course in Golf
Cheers.
i can’t go to IRC at work. can you write me an email at djuka@pinxdesign.com or even do it here?
Ok here it is.
Golf a breif summary by Ethan Michael, Esq.
So a course is made up of 18 holes. Each hole has a par, which is the number of strokes you are supposed to finish the hole in.
So Hole #1 is a par 4. Which means you are trying to get it in the hole in 4 whacks.
If you get it in in 4 you parred the hole. if you get it in in 3 you birdied the hole. 2 under par is an eagle. 1 over par is a bogie. 2 over is a double bogie. 3 is tripple bogie. and so on.
Don’t worry if you don’t par every hole. It’s a number to shoot for. If you can par every hole you are probably semi-pro.
… to be continued
ohhhhhhhhhh i get it. i’ll probably just putt. haha
Golf is amazing - one of my favorite sports. I dont get out as much as I would like to but that’s life
Golf is, like most sports, something you have to try to learn. What works for one person might not work for another. I would suggest going to a driving range and renting or borrowing some clubs from a friend and just hit some balls. It’s best to go with someone who knows a thing or two about the sport and how to hit a proper golf shot as there are some tips that are key to a good golf stroke. These tips however are much easier shown than typed out.
Also, I would suggest learning to putt and chip. Most of your strokes will be made up here. As the old saying goes, “Drive for show, Putt for dough!”

You have your own set of clubs. Usually you have a few drivers which are used to whack the ball real far usually from the t-box or the start of a hole. The 1 wood hits the ball the furthest. You can also have a 3 wood and a 5 wood. The higher the number the more angle the face of the vlub has and the higher it will kick the ball up.
Same goes for your irons. You can have anywhere from a 2 iron up to a 9 iron. The nine is used when you are close to your target and 2 for when you are far away.
Then there is the PW or pitching wedge and the SW sand wedge. These are used when in the sand or when you really want the ball to go up and down dramatically.
There are 3 t-boxes on every hole. The blues are for championship golfers and or pros. The whites are for general men and the reds are for ladies.
(fun fact. If a man fails to hit is drive past the womens t, he must finish the hole with his little buddy hanging from his trousers.)

random golf info.
If you hit the ball into the water, you can either take a penalty stroke and drop the ball onto the grass up next to the water or you can drop it from where you jsut hit it. So if your 3rd shot went in the water, you put another ball down and are hitting your 5th shot.
Golf carts are not race cars… unless the grass is wet and you are not near the clubhouse.
If you are taking a really long time and there are people behind you waiting. Wait on the next Tee and let them play through.
If you can steal a few balls from the driving range as you will lose lots of balls while you learn.
On the driving range you un-officially get points for hitting the person in the cart picking up the range balls.
hit the ball towards the hole. Chase it.
repeat until ball falls in hole.
repeat above at next hole.
after 18, return cart, and head for the pub.
