lol i think so! there is a way with duplicating it and fooling around with perspective and junk…much like you would on paper…but i dont have the exacts…i will fool around with it and let you know…
i’ve managed to make a few slightly effective ones using vectors. Bear in mind that i didn’t actually spend much time making a good looking piece to begin with so you could probably improve on this…
the first method is just to make a flat piece , envelope or rotate it to get it to the position / perspective you want, then just make lots of duplicates moving a bit each time, so it’s actually just built up of heaps of 2d images. Looks ok, but not that good
the other one was to make my 2d vector, then extrude it (flash doesn’t have this command though) which allows me to rotate, give light source etc. I think it looks ok
i can also increase the number of steps if need be
depending on what you want, this may or may not be suitable…
if you can specify what you want it to look like, i could probably try to assemble it for you using the extrude method if you want
nice tute, but the problem is that a jigsaw piece is a very irregular shape. There may be a way of doing it simply, but i can’t think of how you could using the perspective lines, unless somehow you were really good with perspective stuff in which case you could have made the piece without much difficulty…
that site looks like it’s got lotsa cool stuff too
Thanks for the link Guigo, I’m gonna go check that out right now.
ILikePie - I hadn’t thought of using the extrude filter… I tried the 3D Transform one, but made the proverbial pigs ear of that.
This is the best I was able to come up with using Photoshop. No filters involved. You can see what I was aiming for, but it’s still a bit dodgy. Plus, because of the way I ended up drawing it, if I wanted to animate it I’d have to redraw it, as it’s all one shape and the pieces aren’t individual.
I guess it looks alright to present to the clients though, as a concept.
Then you can divide up the jigsaw into each individual piece, and when the user mouses over one, it floats up and highlights…
It’s just been shown to my managers’ manger, the whole page layout I’ve made. And you know what she said? She liked it, but ‘why is the jigsaw square?’
I swear, in a minute I am going to scream. Loudly.
