Im learning Flash - I dont know too much but I can work my way around and follow instructions.
I was taking the drop down menu tutorial on this website ( http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx/dropdownmenu.htm ) and came upon a problem.
On step (iv) it says to add the action code to the symbol, ok, I’ve done something like this before, but now it says that the current selection cannot have actions applied to it. My own guess was that Flash wasnt accepting the code was because the box isnt a symbol. Ive restarted and Ctrl-Z’ed a dozen times or more and I just cant get it to work.
When I change the box into a symbol, nothing shows up when i run the movie.
So thats were my problem is. Sorry if this post is too remedial for some people.

You’ll get the gist. Restart the tutorial and
You don’t attatch any code to this button symbol until vi
at step iv:
Select the rectangle you just created then press F8 to convert it into a symbol and then name it “hit” or what ever name. Make sure the behaviour is Button.
You then double click to enter button editing mode. Drag the UP frame to the HIT frame. This creates an invisable buttom. Make sure you go back to the main timeline .

that didnt really help. does it make a difference what layers the actions are on? the best i can do to an actual rollover menu is when the menu alternates between open and closed as if the animation was just playing straight through.
there is a good tutorial on CBT Cafe. Here, try it out.

oh, i got it i think.
you have to put the code for the invisble button in before you go into the editting mode for it. the tutorial wasnt clear about that. i got it now. thanks anyway for all you loving people out there. i could nt have done this without you
