Metalenz’s Polar ID face-scanning technology works even when the camera is hidden under the display.
Yo that’s pretty slick if it ships — under-display Face ID has been “next year” forever. I’m mostly curious how it holds up with screen smudges/cheap screen protectors, because that’s what always wrecks my phone sensors in real life.
The under-display part that worries me isn’t even the smudges, it’s the display itself acting like a weird filter. OLED subpixel patterns and panel polarization can mess with anything that relies on polarized light.
