External HD

i have to buy one for school. my teach says they are selling for like, 1$ a gig, but i just checked online at a few places and they are much more expensive then that. is this a recent thing? or is my teach just on crack? or am i looking at the wrong place? :frowning:
i cant afford this… :(:(:frowning:

hey babes … I’d just get an iPod! How big do you need? I think the iPod is a GREAT investment. You can use it like an external hard drive, plus you can play music on it.

That’s the way I’d go…

:frowning: but an ipod is only 15 gigs, i need hardcore storage
plus, do they plug into PCs? i thought they only plugged into macs

where in philly r u? i used to live there. actually ill be there on sat again. hehe

does this one look good guys? it seems to me pretty good, it seems to have everything…

ive never bought something like this b4, sorry if im beign stupid

That’s a good HD! Also the speed is good 7200RPMs!

I’ve never bought anything like that, but that same hard-drive as in the link you posted is 10 bucks cheaper at amazon.com

thanks CG, im leaning towards it.

lost, thanks too! ill buy amazon

i have a question, can i install a proggy on it and run it off that? cuz my stupid school had FLASH 5 OMFG EW. and it would be real cool if i could take flash WITH me when i go instead fo torturing myself with their behindedness. otherwise im going to have to buy a laptop, cuz i reFUSE to work with 5. ok. i know im beign a spoiled brat, but i TRIED, i tried sooo hard. but… i cant, i jsut cant…

Yeah i think you can do that! In win98se you can. I don’t know if you can do that with XP though! But try!

if you have FireWire, i.LINK, or 1394 compatible connection on your computer/laptop you can use an iPod easily. They also have a USB connection for normal people ;O)

iPods can be used on both PCs and MACs, which is why my next computer purchase will be a Macintosh (I just need a change of scenery).

I think the one you showed looks nice, I mean, 160GB is nothing to shake a stick at. It might be kinda slow if you dont’ have USB 2.0, not sure how that will go.

I’m from South Philadelphia - on 9th Street, not too far from where the “ROCKY” films were made.

I think you asked me this before Red…

I’m currently at Penn State though, so I’d miss you if you went to Philly :O(

sorry, magick, ima ditz… lol…

how do i know if my puter has a USB2 or firewire conenction? also, wtf is 1394? its the 1st ive heard of that

1394 is firewire.

what kind of computer do you have?

i have a dell dimension 8300, just got it a few weeks ago

Very nice comp you got there gina!

wow red! too bad for me… i really wish i can also have a computer like urs. :*(

thansk guys, i liek it, but honestly i shoulda just built my own… heheh

i dont care though, 17" LCD screen!!! woooohoooooo, its sooo fun

OMFG, I HAVE 8 USB2 CONNECTORS ON MY PUTER

NICE! You can never have too many USB ports…

not just USB, USB2!!! USB2!!!

look again for firewire … add it if you don’t have it (PCI card) it’ll make all the difference in the world - usb anything is horribly slow compared to fw.

Also, Research and confirm if the drive will allow booting

it’s not just the OS - - it is all about the drive, and I forget the “chip name” that will work but there is a difference, they’re not all created equal

soma will and soma won’t
