External text-updating links

Hi everyone. I’m writing for some advice regarding loading external links via a text file. I am making a website for an electronics shop which is coming along well. The way the site is at the moment, new news etc is formatted in html code in txt documents and displayed in a text box with a scroller. I have no problem there.

However, I am currently making a “Downloads” page which will eventually contain a heap of links to manuals, documents etc. As it stands this will be .doc and .pdf files but later will probably add .zip files for firmware downloads. As there will be regular and numerous additions to these files I wanted to know if it were possible to create (using xml??) a function to scan the folder in which the files sit and update the links to the new files that are added, automatically. (using the same names that they are given e.g nokia.doc) This is completely new ground for me so it’s difficult to even search forums for this info. If you could shed any light on this whatsoever it would be greatly appreciated. :ne:
