Facebook frustrations

I realize this is not a Facebook website, but thought it might be worth asking around different places to get more input from other people. I have been trying to find some answers other places but it seems as though Facebook does not care - and that in general, these types of problems are fixed “when they get to it.”

Here’s a background if you’re not familiar:
Facebook introduced a “Share” button long ago. Very similar to the new “Like” button. With this share button, you could specify the title, description, and a preview thumbnail image using meta tags and a link tag for the thumbnail.

This information was also used to populate a preview if the website was shared by manually entering the URL into the user’s status box (as opposed to using the “Share” button).

My current problem:
Now that the “Like” button is out and about, it seems that these old tags, which worked with the “Share” button, and worked with manual insertion of the URL, no longer work.

I don’t know if it’s a temporary bug, or a permanent thing now - but I have tried to fix the problem and I can’t figure it out.

For example. I have a “Like” button on this new site I just launched. It works fine. It does what it is supposed to. It even pulls the correct image and everything, according to the Facebook Linter.

However- manually sharing the URL, it does not pull the information it normally would. It seems as though the old tags that did this no longer work. I’ve been told by Facebook to use the new method… which clearly does not work.

So, I want to know if any of you have run into the same or similar issues - and whether or not you know how to fix it.
