Firefox Startup

My friend recently moved from IE to FF, however, FF takes about ten seconds to start up. It’s not a problem with RAM or CPU power, both are plenty, but I can’t figure out why it’s taking so long. Are there any tweaks?

Ok, that fixes the problem, but any idea for the delays? I’ve went through settings after settings and still no avail.

I’ve tried this, but I didn’t really like it. Let’s say you have FF open with 8 tabs…you could easily be using like 200 mb of RAM. Then you “close” firefox, but if you look in task manager firefox (or maybe the preloader) is still taking up 200 mb of RAM instead of the ~20-30 mb a fresh firefox window would take up. The following tweak should help quite a bit without taking a crap-load of RAM.

In windows:

This is more like a general tips for Windows XP but here it is. You can turn on the prefetcher that available in Windows XP.

* Right click on Firefox icon and press properties
* Type /Prefetch:1 at the end of command in target field.
* For instance “C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe” /Prefetch:1 (Make sure you have space in between firefox.exe” and /Prefetch:1)
* Press OK to save
