Ok, so like I was all geeked today because I had finally gotten my email form on my site to work right. I had been up all night long working on it tweaking it, basically just trying to make it work as perfectly as I could. I went home today to get some much needed sleep and when i came back to school I started checking my emails. Low and behold, a new one from Macromedia talking of the great success they had in making the new Studio 8 program. Inside the email was one section from an artist who used to Studio 8 to make a three page site to showcase his work. He pubbed his site (www.rodwerks.com) to show how Flash Player prompts you from inside the movie to upgrade players and then return you back to the movie after installing the upgrade. Well, i decided to chec out his site just so I could see what all the hubraw was about. I sincerly regret doing so.
First, as I tried to install the new player, it kept directing me to close out all of my browser windows. That sucked. Then, I distinctly remembering the guy from the email saying that after the new player is installed, the user would automatically get redirected to the site that they came from in the first place. Well, that never happened. I had to go all the way back to me email, open that up and retrieve the site address just so i could watch two white guys getting ate by an alligator and thumbnails of illustrations. Ok, I can deal with that.
The worst thing that happened is that my email form on my site no longer works. To be more specific, when the form is trying to send the variables out, it can’t because Flash Player 8 won’t send them. How do I know it’s the player and not jsut plain ole dumb human me? Well, when I test the email form from inside of Flash MX 2004, it’s works perfectly fine: My .php form recieves all of the variables that are being sent out, sends me my email and sends my autoresponse email out as well. I’m pretty sure that the reason that it’s working inside of Flash MX 2k4 is Flash MX 2k4 still has PLAYER 7.
Now your’re probably wondering, if Flash Player 8 wasn’t working right, wouldn’t you not be able to even see your movie? Well, I thought about that and the only conclusion that I can come up with is that the programming inside Flash Player 8 isn’t coded to deal with variables being sent from a movie designed for Flash Player 7. Why else would it work inside Flash MX 2k4 and not in the browser? Sp now, I have to search around Macromedia to try to see if they have something to uninstall Flash Player 8. Ain’t technology grand? :hangover:
