Flash (SWF) Desktop Wallpapers...does anyone use them? thoughts/opinions?

From a marketing standpoint, having the ability to dynamically load ads directly on the user’s desktop seems like a great idea. I understand that I’ll have to make sure to not interfere too much with the users desktop as a whole and to make it light.

But a while back SWF desktops seemed to really be popular and there was a lot of buzz about them. Now, when I try to search for it, it seems to have died? Sure I found some sites and software, but it doesn’t really seem like much. Not nearly as much hype as I remember being about it in the past.

Is there some huge flaw or something bad about it? I’m thinking of using it like I said from a marketing standpoint. I know I can get lots of installs but I’d rather not elaborate since that’s irrelevant. Assuming I can get lots of installs, what things should I watch out for?

Does anyone have any thoughts and/or opinions on these desktop wallpapers? Any recommended software to use?

Overall, I won’t be doing anything heavy or graphic intensive. It will be quite light, and static. The only thing I will be doing is using it to load images dynamically, such as a wallpaper that changes daily/monthly with announcements…that sort of thing.

Thanks a bunch for your input.
