Flash, programming, databases, and site building have all been interests of mine for a long time but I have never really had a project that involved any of those interests. As a result, I know a little bit about everything but my skills are very weak.
I now have a personal project that I would very much like to see completed. I am not looking for a sense of accomplishment; I really just want to be able to use the end product. I originally planned to try to complete the project on my own but I know that it would take too long. That is why I am looking for some help. If I had the money I would even pay someone to just build it. I don’t even need any ownership of the game, I just need to be able to use it.
The whole reason for the game is to help my 2nd grader with his math. Public school is not doing him justice at the moment and I think this game could teach him everything he needs at this level. The game I have in mind is basically a rip-off of the Raindrops game from lumosity.com.
Have you played the game yet? Okay, so the idea is to alter the game and use it as a memorization tool. Game play/structure would be as follows:
Player creates account or logs in.
Player selects difficulty level.
Player selects addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, or any combination.
Press Play.
Game starts, play is very similar or only superficially different from the Raindrops game.
Problems that do not get solved correctly or quickly enough are recorded or ranked in a database (if that is the best way to do it).
If the player misses a problem then the answer is shown to them during gameplay.
Problems that were missed become more frequent in the game sometimes to the point where the player sees the same problem over and over again in quick succession.
Game difficulty increases by increasing frequency of problems.
Game ends after player fails to meet some criteria.
Player is shown a results screen displaying high score, last score, missed problems, etc.
Subsequent games test to see if the player has learned previously missed problems. If they have, the missed problems will gradually be de-rated.
In short, I want the game catered to the player, for the player to see a higher frequency of missed problems, and for the player to be exposed repetitively to the correct problem-solution combination.
I have done nothing at this point except to the think about how the program might be structured. I would like to know who or how many people might be interested in doing or helping me with this project.
Assuming that no one is going to jump up and do this for me then my first question is about the need for a database. I would really like to interact with an external database as little as possible. My plan was to create a movie symbol for every problem and name them things like 1p6, 8m3, 2x5, 9d3, etc. I’m estimating 4,000 movie symbols. Is that impractical? Will there be a way to store the stats for each problem in Flash or will it be necessary to communicate to an external database? If this can be done in Flash could somebody please point me to the appropriate method.
Any help is really appreciated.
