Does anyone know how to do this gamma effect (it’s with the Colors Class I’ve been told)?

I’ve been wanting to do something similar with a slideshow when they first appear on the screen they automatically do the colorization and then fade to normal.
For example, using a file from the Best Of Kirupa: http://www.kirupa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=87388, instead of having the fade when a file is selected, having this gamma effect - it’s much sexier… any ideas?
