Yesterday I had the idea of making a word relationship database thingy. I’m sure it is nothing new, but it has been very interesting for me to code out a prototype.
Please feel free to try out “Happiness”
http://happiness.outreachstudios.com
Happiness wants to learn what words mean. Click on a word or phrase from the list provided and tell Happiness what it means. There are only a few guidelines (which I will publish, along with a description of this little project, when I get around to it).
- Avoid listing Synonyms.
- Simple sentences are preferred (multiple sentences in one definition are allowed).
- Avoid definitions that rely on illustrating the opposite (don’t define “standing” as “not running”).
- Feel free to define English words in another language and vice versa (Happiness has no concept of language. To it, there is one human vocabulary. A language is like a subset of the global vocabulary, and Happiness doesn’t distinguish between these subsets).
Those are all the guidelines I can think of at the moment.
Happiness begins the database creation by asking what the definition of “happiness” is. It then asks for the definition of all words (and possibly phrases) used to define “happiness”. It will continue to learn new words and update definitions.
I will discuss some of the eventual uses of Happiness I have in mind when the full site is up.
Here are two statistic links you might find interesting after Happiness has been running for a while:
