Host your own web?

Can I host my website with something like Personal Web Server, apache, coldfusion, sql Server 2000, Xitami or Pi3web? I did it on my Sisters computer wich she has windows 98 and I did it with personal webserver but now I can’t do it on My computer with personal webserver I have windows me. Now it can’t do it on her computer anymore. Can someone please tell me if you can do that and if so how?

Thnx

you can, but its not recommended for long-term use. Personal Web Server is really just for testing files locally before you upload them to the web.

There are a whole bunch of issues about using your personal PC for a webserver… security, speed, bandwith, traffic, and I’m sure your ISP will not be happy with all of the bandwidth being soaked up…

I have new computer that only has three things on it flash dreamweaver and coldfusion does that make a diffrents?

no. A personal PC is not a good thing to use for long-term web hosting. You need to get a real server…

Oh yah I know all of the possibilitys already. I have dsl f that makes the internet faster and I’ll be carefull with bandwidth and security and all that stuff.

oh okay thanx Jbba

I’m saying no. Thats my answer, I don’t think anyone here will recommend that you do unless you absolutely 100% know what you are doing.

Okay thank you sorry for getting on your nerves

yeah, i do run a webserver on my machine, but i wouldn’t actually host a real site on it. specially since it’s a windows machine, if you had a linux box it still wouldn’t be a good idea, but not as bad

windows me does not support running a virtual host with apache, that is, you can only access the server with http://localhost/ , you can’t get people to access it through your ip

even with all the security in the world i don’t think you could be secure on a windows me system.

what if someone manipulates your system registery? or worse introduces trojons or something like that?

a webserver is SAFE and CHEAP .

yea plus i doubt your isp gives you a static ip, then what are u going to do, buy one of those DNS for me progs… gack
