I wasn’t really talking to anyone specifically… I just get this notion when people defend 2advanced clones… since there’s no original idea, then it’s really not too bad to copy them. That might be true but the number of sites copying 2advanced is really astronomical and I personally don’t think it’s ok. And how many of these sites actually give 2advanced credit for using their ideas. Sure, it’s easy to come across a site that might use similar colors or have their menus, etc in the right place. But usually, people cross way beyond that line that they don’t even see it anymore.

I know a lot of people who have the talent, but couldn’t come up with an original idea if their life depended on it. But give them a sample to copy off of, and they are DaVinci…

Creativity is usually a combination of things you have seen and ways you can improve them.
i mean - almost no idea is compleatly original anymore but with time comes more ideas. People have been saying “it’s all been done before” forever but new ideas happen all the time. I mean if you look hard enough you can find certain attributes from other ideas but to bring it all together and make your own is truley original.
Ren girl - I know you werent really picking on one person but to defend myself, I DO NOT think it’s ok to copy someone else’s work. Ever. I know it’s considered the truest form of flattery but in the design world it’s not right. I know many people like the ones Rev has described, heck I have even been one of them on occasion. But if you cannot come up with your own ideas you arent going to make it very far.

I agree… it’s not IMPOSSIBLE to come up with a new idea. But if you’re going to imitate, at least add your own twist to it, or improve upon it - and I’m not just talking about moving the menu from the top to the bottom. This is why I personally am not at all impressed at 2advanced clones - even if they did build it from scratch and not just copy everything pixel by pixel. None of them even have the sense or originality to at the very least implement a new color scheme! That’s just ridiculous.
And I agree, imitation is flattery. But give credit where credit is due, otherwise, you’re not admiring someone’s work but stealing their thunder.

I look for the same in live music. I don’t care if you cover a tune, just give me added value… something that makes it yours… in other words, invest your soul into it, and own it…
I have an aquaintance (he owns my fav pub) who is a very very talented blues guitarist. However, he plays every song the same, note for note, riff for riff. I hadn’t seen him play in a while (I can’t stand to hear him anymore), so I stopped in the other nite. He played the same songs, note for note, solo for solo, as he has for the past 5 years that I know of (I hadn’t heard him play prev)…
I no longer go to my fav pub on Tuesday nites… (he also has the personality of a moldy floor mop)…

i think the biggest crime is that this guy copyrights all of his images, designs, and flash files. He even goes so far as to refer to the site as done in ‘his style’ I think he should give credit to 2advanced on his site, or face a plaugeurism lawsuit.

I know!! i was reading some of his stuff…he talkes about “his style”?! hahaha, should be 2 advanced style. I just emailed him with “another 2 advanced”
