I’d have to look at it closer, but it looks like a simple translation with an image that has a transparency mask.
ie: create the images in Photoshop with transparent backgrounds.
Save as 24bit png.
import images into flash.
instantiate them at alpha 0 and xy-coordinates to place them under the magician’s hand.
Fire the sequence that sets alpha 1 and moves them across the stage then back to alpha 0.
The effect in your link would be very easy to invent, and only a little bit harder to duplicate.
